MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Message from our Founder,

Hopes Source has grown so passionate about this subject of Hereditary Cancer, that we’ve now made it the primary emphasis of what we do.

We want all men and woman, to take charge! People no longer have to count on their healthcare provider to screen and test them for hereditary cancers. We would like to see all physicians offer testing and screening to their patients, but for some reason the majority of physicians still don’t get it. They either don’t test at all, or still rely on older technologies with limited testing options.

They will screen for breast lumps and abnormal PAP smears but not the hereditary genes. This no longer makes sense, it’s the gene’s that turn out to have a more positive result for the Dr.’s more often than those other tests they prescribe.

Even the college of OB/GYN’s and family practitioners states that your health care provider should screen you for the hereditary genes that can significantly increase your risk of cancer.

How hard is it to get the test? Easy! Just spit onto a tube for the test. Yes that is it. The lab does all the insurance legwork for you and your patients.

Please, please get educated on screening patients both male and female. The hereditary genes occur equally in men and women. You really have no choice. Your college recommends that you test. You can’t pass this off any longer to a specialist or simple hope your patient will search for genetic counselor. There aren’t enough of them and it can be expensive for patients, if it’s not handled correctly.

Research shows that only a small percentage of patients actually go when referred. We all know that the majority of all cancer deaths would have been prevented if detected early. Treating and removing cancer, can longer be the only options for patients. Prevention must become 1st priority.

Also, we can’t help you! That’s right. We can’t help you if your patient or their relative gets one of the hereditary cancers and she sues you. If you were obligated to screen or refer and you didn’t then it is an indefensible act and you will be below the standard of care.

We want the opportunity to serve you and become an Advocate for your patients,

Respectfully,

Michael Sullivan
